“La La Alto Sets the pace for Cancer Research UK”

Emma - going for goldIn January I thought it would be a good idea to sign up for the Race for Life in an attempt to get a bit fitter, get outside in the fresh air and even lose a few cheeky pounds along the way! For those that know me, I don’t really exercise except for going out on hikes with the chap, so this is quite the challenge for me.
On my second attempt at jogging, I found myself in A&E with a pulled a tendon in my foot (massive ouch!) which needless to say, put me off somewhat and put me out of action for some time. I needed new trainers desperately, but put off buying some…
On the 9th June 2014 with 7 weeks to go until the race, I finally bought new trainers and got back out there with my very supportive boyfriend Chris. I found it a real struggle and was aching all over, not enjoying myself in the slightest but in an attempt to do something positive to raise money for such a great cause I know my petty suffering is nothing in comparison.
With some last minute training packed in a couple of weeks before the race I found some confidence and knew if we paced ourselves and stuck to our plan we would succeed on the day. The overwhelming support from family and friends was invaluable.
I did the race with Tracey and Amie “mother in-law” and “sister in-law” – my aim being just to get round the 5km course, and we completed it in 42 minutes, not a bad effort for a first-timer! I am really very proud of myself and so far have raised just over £300 for Cancer Research UK.
Events like Race for Life are vital in funding Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. It is not too late to sponsor me and help make a difference; we can unite and create a force that cancer can’t ignore.
